Abdominoplasty Tunisia Restorative surgery of the belly: general concept and indications
Also called abdominal plasty, abdominoplasty is a surgical operation that aims to correct the imperfections of the belly, namely: excess fat, muscular or skin alterations, etc. The operation allows restoring the concave and convex lines that determine the aesthetic belly and display the muscular shape. In general, abdominoplasty is intended for people who have a damaged belly due to multiple pregnancies, hormonal imbalance, weight loss, or the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle.

Aesthetic surgery of the belly allows to improve the appearance of the belly, especially when the skin is very distended, for example:
- After one or several pregnancies;
- After an important weight loss;
- In case of important lesions (stretch marks, scars, hernias...);
- In case of fat overload.
Indeed, this cosmetic surgery may be indicated for aesthetic or functional reasons. In the second case, it may be recommended to remedy premature aging of the skin, umbilical hernia, or abdominal apron (abdomen partially or totally covering the pubic area).
The abdominoplasty requires a 24 to 48 hour hospitalization, at the most. The operation is performed after general anesthesia and takes place in four stages depending on the case (one or the other can be discarded if it is not necessary to resort to it):
- To begin, the surgeon performs a liposuction or lipoaspiration, which consists of removing excess fat and flattening the entire stomach and waist area.
- Then, he will operate on the upper part of the abdomen by removing skin and fat tissue. This detachment aims to tighten the skin downwards and to eventually put it back in tension at the end of the operation.
- The surgeon can then correct a possible diastasis (loosening of the abdominal muscles) by tightening the rectus muscles.
- Finally, a dermolipectomy may be performed to remove excess skin tissue between the umbilicus and the pubic area.
An abdominoplasty leaves an incision scar in the lower abdomen and may require the wearing of a compression garment adapted to the patient's morphology over two or three weeks. But once the postoperative process is completed, the results are greatly beneficial to the patient.
The patient can indeed enjoy better mobility and muscular comfort. Also, a flattened and harmonious belly has an impact on the psychological level, in that it allows the patient to regain good self-esteem.
